Few people think about the food they eat every day. But if you look at the fact that 1.5 million people are diagnosed with cancer each year, you can ask about the types of foods that feed cancer cells.
1. Canned Goods
The majority of cans on the market are made with bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical that affects the genes of our brain. This is why most canned foods are at risk of cancer and it is best to avoid them.
2. Processed Meat
Sausages, bacon, ham and other processed meat contain chemicals and preservatives that, in the long run, pose a threat to your health. People with mesothelioma should avoid processed meats because their immunity is very low.
Sodas contain almost only sugar, which not only leads to obesity, but also insulin resistance, inflammation and gastroesophageal reflux.
4. Farmed Salmon
Farmed salmon can be contaminated with many carcinogens, such as antibiotics and pesticides, because they are fed non-natural foods. This will certainly affect you in the long run if they are an important part of your diet.
5. Refined Sugars
There is evidence that tumours and cancers feed on refined sugars to grow, which is a good reason to avoid them.
6. Hydrogenated Oils
Hydrogenated oils are rich in Omega-6 fatty acids, which can cause different types of cancer, such as skin cancer.
7. Pickled and Smoked Foods
Marinated foods contain nitrates and dyes, which are linked to stomach cancer and colorectal cancer. Smoked foods are also not good because they contain tar, a known carcinogen to avoid.
According to a Rowett Institute study, GMO foods can damage the immune system, cause the growth of precancerous cells and reduce the size of our liver and brain.
9. Artificial Sweeteners
You may think that artificial sweeteners are a healthier alternative, but there is evidence that the chemicals they contain break down into a toxin called DKP, which causes brain tumours.
There is nothing wrong with drinking alcohol from time to time, but excessive drinking can lead to many health problems. Breast cancer, stroke, heart failure and more.
11. Red Meat
Again, a moderate consumption of red meat is perfectly healthy. But if consumed daily, it increases the risk of dying from cancer in men (22%) and women (20%). It’s a good idea to give it up, introduce healthier meats and reduce the amount you eat.
12. High Fat Foods
There is no strong link between fat and cancer, but high intake of high-fat foods can lead to many health problems that will increase the risk of breast, pancreatic, bowel and even kidney cancer.
Food is our source of life, there is no doubt about it. That’s why we need to make sure that we only eat things that are really good for us.
For people with mesothelioma, whether it’s pleural mesothelioma, peritoneal mesothelioma or malignant mesothelioma, it’s especially important to monitor what you’re eating. Your immunity is compromised, which is why food security is becoming more important than ever.
